Benefits

The benefits of the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship include:

  • Monthly stipend:
    • NT$60,000 for professors, associate professors, research fellows, and associate research fellows.
    • NT$50,000 for assistant professors, assistant research fellows, or doctoral fellows.
  • Payments are made at the beginning of each month.
  • Round-trip airfare (economy class).
  • Accident insurance, including medical coverage for accidental injuries, costs up to NT$1 million.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to international professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, and research fellows.
  • Candidates recommended by ROC (Taiwan) overseas missions with a focus on Taiwan’s foreign relations or cross-strait relations.
  • Available for a programme duration of three to twelve months.
  • You are not eligible if you are currently conducting research, teaching, or studying in Taiwan.
  • I cannot receive other scholarships from Taiwanese government agencies or academic institutions during the fellowship.
  • Part-time work is not allowed without MOFA’s consent.
  • Recipients must cover any expenses beyond the fellowship amount.

Required Documents:

  • Completed application form.
  • Research proposal (3 pages with a standard research format).
  • Resume (including a list of publications).
  • Passport copy.
  • Two letters of recommendation (or one recommendation letter and one letter of consent from the chief administrator of your institute).

Deadline:

The application deadline to apply for the MOFA Taiwan Fellowship is June 30, 2024.

 

How to Apply

  • Complete Online Application: Start by filling out the online application form on the MOFA Fellowship website. Ensure all information is accurate and complete.
  • Review Requirements: Before submitting your application, carefully review the MOFA Scholarship requirements to confirm eligibility.
  • Submit Documents: Prepare and submit the required documents along with your online application form. These typically include a research proposal, a CV with a list of publications, and letters of recommendation.
  • Submit to the ROC Embassy/Representative Office: Send your application package to the nearest ROC (Taiwan) Embassy or Representative Office in your country of residence. They will conduct an initial review, verify the information, and assess your academic influence or potential.
  • Selection Process: The selection committee will evaluate applications based on feedback from the ROC Embassy or Representative Office.
  • Notification of Results: Successful candidates will be notified via email regarding their selection.
  • Secure Research Institution Consent: Upon selection, fellows must contact universities or research institutions in Taiwan to secure a letter of consent for their research project.
  • Receive Grant Authorization: After obtaining the letter of consent, candidates will receive a “Grant Authorization Letter” from the Taiwan Fellowship team, officially recognising them as recipients of the fellowship.
