Two postdoctoral research grants for six months in Rome are available from Academia Belgica. The fellowships offer free housing, a €750 monthly stipend, and a travel expense reimbursement. Scholars in the historical sciences, literature, art history, and architectural history are given precedence.
Applicants must hold a PhD earned no more than 12 years ago and be formally affiliated with a Flemish or French-speaking university in Belgium to be eligible for the Research Grants Academiae Belgicae. They must exhibit exceptional scholastic achievement and submit a unique research project requiring a stay in Rome.

Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible Countries: Open to applicants officially affiliated with a Flemish or French-speaking university in Belgium.
- Acceptable Course or Subjects: Priority given to researchers working in historical sciences, art history, architectural history, and literature.
- Admissible Criteria:
- Hold a third-cycle diploma (PhD), obtained no more than 12 years ago at the time of application.
- The research stay must start no later than 1 May of the academic year for which the application was submitted.
- Have obtained outstanding results.
- Present an original research project that justifies a stay in Rome for the requested period.
How to Apply
- The application consists of:
- the completed application from
- a written recommendation from a competent authority from the institution or faculty that you are affiliated with
- A written confirmation by the supervisor of the date of the public defense in case the candidate does not yet hold the doctoral degree.
- The form and the letter of recommendation must be sent by 15 September 2025 at the latest to segreteria@academiabelgica.it. The results are announced mid November.
