Rules to Get Aid / Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the ACS Medical Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- The applicants must be certified doctors that graduated from a school of medicine and also successfully passed a postgraduate training program in surgery.
- The applicant should be a fully certified surgeon with at least five years’ experience post-certification plus a maximum of 20 years’ experience.
- Applications for these positions should be submitted by applicants from their proposed permanent location.
- The applications will not be filed until the applicants should have worked, taught, or researched for a full year at their permanent location after formal training is complete, including fellowships and scholarships.
- They should provide proof of their dedication towards exceptional surgery, surgical learning, and ensuring that the public has proper surgical coverage in their region.
- Past awardees of ACS international scholarships do not qualify.
- All fields must be submitted by applicants. All application documents excluding references should be written in English.
- Applicants with no exposure to training or surgical fellowships in the U.S. and Canada will be highly considered.
- Applicants must provide three separately written letters of reference from their colleagues. In their country, one letter must be from the chair of the department where they have a clinical or academic post or by a FACSurgeon.
- Each ISSURGED award is meant to be utilised for a single-year period.
- Upon returning home, awardees should submit a written report on the benefits of the visit and its potential impact on patient care back home.
