Every year, the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies offers scholarships to academically eligible students from and beyond Qatar. Some scholarships are available based on merit and academic competition, while others are available based on financial need. The Institute offers the following scholarship scheme for national and international students in 2024/25:.
Tamim Scholarship:
These scholarships are merit-based and based on academic excellence. It is dedicated to the Arab world’s most renowned Qatari and international students. International students from abroad will benefit from the following:
- Free housing in institute dorms
- A monthly stipend
- Health insurance as part of their scholarship
Sanad Scholarship:
These scholarships are awarded depending on students’ financial needs. It is for Qataris, Qatari residents, and international students, as follows:
- Scholarships can cover up to 100% of a program’s fees
- International students outside Qatar will benefit from full tuition coverage
- Free housing in institution dorms
- A monthly stipend
- Health insurance
Requirements and Eligibilities
Two requirements are set for the 2024–25 Doha Institute Graduate Studies Scholarships. Master’s and PhD students can review the criteria as follows:
General Requirements:
- Candidates from any country of the world can apply for this scholarship
- International candidates should have a bachelor’s degree certificate to apply for graduate scholarships at Doha Institute.
- Final-year undergraduate students can also apply for admission to the Institute.
- Students should demonstrate an excellent academic record.
- Be proficient in the English language.
- All applicants should meet the admission requirements of the desired program at the Doha Institute of Graduate Studies.
For Master’s Degree Applicants:
- Applicants should not combine Institute grants with any other scholarship, regardless of source.
- Only students with high academic standing are eligible for the institute’s scholarships. By its rules, the Institute may withhold scholarships from students who violate this criteria.
- The scholarships are not available to students enrolled in executive masters, diplomas, or specialized certificates.
- Students previously receiving the same scholarships will not be eligible for the institute’s awards.
For PhD applicants:
- Students who have previously received the same scholarships, whether they achieved the degree or not, will not be eligible for the Institute’s awards.
- Except with the previous approval of the Doctoral Studies, a student may not combine the Institute’s scholarship with any other scholarship, regardless of source.
- Students who have received a full scholarship must agree to work for the institute for at least ten hours per week during the semester in research, teaching, and any other required subjects. Working hours for partial grantees are established in part by the value of the scholarship, with a weekly maximum of 15 hours.
- The Doctoral Studies Board establishes the essential work subjects in cooperation with the programs and colleges. The duties mentioned above must be met to continue receiving institute scholarships.
First-phase admission requirements for PhDs:
- The university must accept the application.
- The candidate must be unable to afford the costs of getting a doctorate and must not be receiving any other scholarships.
- The scholarship is for two semesters, during which the student must complete the first phase’s courses. If they are not completed within that time frame, the student must pay the additional fees set by the institution.
Second-phase admission requirements (full-time reading of the prospectus):
- The student’s GPA in first-phase courses must be at least 3.5.
- This scholarship is valid for one academic year.
Third-phase admission requirements (Dissertation writing):
- By the end of the second phase, the student must have completed the prospectus phase assignments and passed the comprehensive test.
- The scholarship is for two academic years and can be extended with the consent of the Director, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Doctoral Studies Board.
