Student visas: how they work
Every country is different, but the steps are similar.
The usual steps
- Get an unconditional offer from your university
- Receive the official document the visa needs (each country has its own form or confirmation)
- Prepare proof of funds, passport, photos and any health or police checks
- Apply online or at a visa centre and attend biometrics or an interview if required
Timing
Start as soon as you have your offer. Processing times vary from a few weeks to a few months, and peak season is busy.
Always use official sources
Visa rules change regularly. Use the official government immigration website of your destination, and be cautious with agents who promise guaranteed visas.
