  • Admissible Criteria:Β To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be enrolledΒ full-timeΒ in aΒ thesis-basedΒ graduate program at StFX.
  • Have achievedΒ first-class standingΒ in their most recent academic studies.
  • Conduct research aligned withΒ Nova Scotia’s priority sectors.
  • Be within their normal time to completion in September of the next academic year.
  • Not have previously received an NSGS award for more than 2 years (Master’s) or 4 years (PhD).

ForΒ renewalΒ of the scholarship, recipients must:

  • MaintainΒ good academic standingΒ as per the StFX Academic Calendar.
  • Remain enrolledΒ full-timeΒ as defined in the StFX Academic Calendar.
  • Submit anΒ annual progress reportΒ and renewal application (by February 15).
  • Demonstrate how their research contributes to Nova Scotia’sΒ economic and social well-being.
  • Receive approval from theΒ Committee on Graduate StudiesΒ based on research progress.

How to Apply

  • ConsultΒ with your Faculty Supervisor and Departmental Graduate Studies Coordinator.
  • CompleteΒ the StFX Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarships application form.
  • SubmitΒ the application online via theΒ ROMEO researcher portalΒ to theΒ Office of the Associate Vice President, Research, Graduate and Professional StudiesΒ byΒ February 15.
  • Late or incomplete applications willΒ notΒ be considered.

All applications will beΒ reviewed and rankedΒ by theΒ Graduate Studies CommitteeΒ or aΒ delegated review committee, based on:

  1. MeritΒ of the research proposal.
  2. ExcellenceΒ of the student.
  3. AlignmentΒ with Nova Scotia’s priority sectors.
  4. ImpactΒ on the economic and/or social well-being of Nova Scotians.

Final decisions will be made inΒ MarchΒ each year.
