The Tomorrow’s Leaders Program is a fully funded undergraduate scholarship from the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). It gives talented students from underserved communities in the Middle East and North Africa a full bachelor’s degree in Lebanon, plus leadership training, mentoring and internships.

What the scholarship covers

  • Tuition for up to four years, with no enrolment fees
  • Free accommodation and health insurance
  • Visa and residency permit fees
  • A monthly stipend for taking part in program activities, plus a textbook allowance
  • A laptop for the length of your studies
  • Two return flights home each year
  • Leadership and career workshops, internships and mentoring by faculty
  • A chance to spend one semester at a university in the United States

Who can apply

  • Citizens of Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia or Yemen, and eligible Palestinians from the West Bank or living legally in a third country
  • High school seniors, or students who finished high school in (graduates of from Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen and Palestine may also apply)
  • About 80% or higher in previous studies
  • Strong leadership potential, and community or volunteer involvement
  • English good enough for university study (you take a free online English test while applying; TOEFL or IELTS is only needed if you are shortlisted)
  • Not eligible: U.S. citizens and permanent residents, and medical students. Current university students are considered case by case.

How to apply

  1. Register on the official Tomorrow’s Leaders website and create your account.
  2. Answer every question, keeping to the word limits.
  3. Take the free online English assessment inside the application.
  4. Upload your documents and submit before 18 November.

Applications are reviewed for English, grades, financial background and leadership. Shortlisted students have an online interview in January.

Documents

  • National ID card or passport
  • High school transcripts for grades 10, 11 and 12 (when available), and your diploma if you have graduated
  • Proof of extracurricular and volunteer activities
  • Personal statement and written answers
  • Two recommendations, at least one from a teacher
  • English translations where needed
  • If shortlisted: TOEFL or IELTS by 8 March, SAT if asked by 26 March
