Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
The world's top-ranked university for science, engineering and technology.
MIT was founded in 1861 and sits on the Charles River in Cambridge, just across from Boston. It is known worldwide for engineering, computer science, physics and economics, and for a hands-on culture summed up in its motto, "mind and hand".
Undergraduates work in research labs from their first years, and the campus is surrounded by start-ups and tech companies. MIT meets the full demonstrated financial need of admitted undergraduates, including international students, so the sticker price is not what most families pay.
If English is not your first language and you have not studied in English for several years, MIT asks for an English proficiency result such as TOEFL, IELTS or the Duolingo English Test. Check the current policy on MIT Admissions before you book a test.
Undergraduate tuition for 2026–27 is USD 66,720 per year. Housing, food, books and personal costs come on top. MIT offers need-based aid to international undergraduates, so use its net price calculator to see what you would actually pay.
Figures last checked October 2026. Fees change every year, so confirm them with the university before you apply.
